Unobtrusive Pain Monitoring in Older Adults With Dementia Using Pairwise and Contrastive Training

چکیده

Although pain is frequent in old age, older adults are often undertreated for pain. This especially the case long-term care residents with moderate to severe dementia who cannot report their because of cognitive impairments that accompany dementia. Nursing staff acknowledge challenges effectively recognizing and managing facilities due lack human resources and, sometimes, expertise use validated assessment approaches on a regular basis. Vision-based ambient monitoring will allow automated assessments so could be automatically notified when signs displayed. However, existing computer vision techniques detection not faces or people dementia, this population represented facial expression datasets We present first fully vision-based technique cohort. Our contributions threefold. First, we develop deep learning-based system detecting painful expressions video dataset collected unobtrusively from adult participants without Second, introduce pairwise comparative inference method calibrates each person sensitive changes while using training data more efficiently than sequence models. Third, fast contrastive improves cross-dataset performance. estimation model outperforms baselines by wide margin, evaluated Pre-trained demo code available at https://github.com/TaatiTeam/pain_detection_demo.
